The Adirondack chair must be one of the grandest of all outdoor chairs. The design, look and comfort it offers takes this iconic lawn chair beyond the everyday!

At Timber Living Outdoors we have taken Thomas Lee’s original 1903 design that step further – including a specially designed footstool to bring a rare elegance and added comfort to this admirable chair.
Thomas Lee designed the chair while holidaying in Adirondack Mountains in New York State- hence the name. Needing outdoor chairs for his summer home, he tested his early efforts on his family. After arriving at a final design for a “Westport plank chair,” he offered it to a carpenter friend in Westport in need of a winter income, Harry Bunnell, who manufactured hemlock plank “Westport chairs” for the next twenty years, painted in green or medium dark brown.
We think Western Australia’s Jarrah timber is great improvement on painted green or medium dark brown hemlock for this chair – and the updated design takes it well past the original “plank chair”. The Millbrook’s shaped seating, wide arm rests and fanned back reflects our understanding of the importance of comfort along with good looks!
